Three years ago today, Santa Barbara law enforcement showed up at Elliot’s door to do a welfare check.
From the Santa Barbara investigative summary: “At approximately 2217 hours, dispatch received a call from a staff member managing the crisis line for Santa Barbara County Mental Health. The staff member requested deputies check the welfare of the suspect at 6598 Seville Road #7. The staff member said she had been contacted by the suspect’s mother, Chin Rodger, who had viewed YouTube videos the suspect posted. Chin said the suspect appeared to be depressed in the videos. Chin had not heard from the suspect in four days, and she was concerned for his well-being.”
Elliot also wrote about this in My Twisted World: “After only a week passed since I uploaded those videos on YouTube, I heard a knock on my apartment door. I opened it to see about seven police officers asking for me. As soon as I saw those cops, the biggest fear I had ever felt in my life overcame me. I had the striking and devastating fear that someone had somehow discovered what I was planning to do, and reported me for it. If that was the case, the police would have searched my room, found all of my guns and weapons, along with my writings about what I plan to do with them. I would have been thrown in ail, denied of the chance to exact revenge on my enemies. I can’t imagine a hell darker than that. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, but it was so close.”
